THOROFARE, N.J. – The East was thoroughly represented on the Top 30 Cream of the Crop All-Star selections on Oct. 26 as the Pangos All-East Frosh/Soph Camp wrapped up in the Riverwinds Center.
Players from eight states and the District of Columbia filled the Top 30 roster for the camp’s final game with the squad wearing black jerseys pulling away over the final five minutes for a 110-101 victory.
Sophomore Isaiah Washington (St. Raymond High in the Bronx) scored only six points but his ability to push the ball at a sizzling pace, with his passes leading teammates directly into dunks, layups and wide-open jump shots, sparked a nice run to help the winners black-wearing squad overcome a half-time deficit of five points and seize control of things.
No one kept “official” stats (scoring totals were provided by Clark Francis of the Hoop Scoop On Line) although Washington likely had at least a dozen assists, many of those of the spectacular variety.
Freshman Atiba Taylor (Hackensack, NJ, High) had a team-high 15 points for the white jersey-sporting squad and shared Most Outstanding Player of the game honors with Washington.
Six-foot sophomore guard David Kacherlries (Emmaus, PA, High), a late addition after several players had to leave early and couldn’t participate, was tabbed the Most Outstanding Player in the Top 60 Cream of the Crop contest after scoring 18 points to lead the white jersey-wearing team to a 99-86 victory.
My unofficial choices for Most Outstanding Players for their play during the four-round camp-game schedule are (among the sophomores) Zach Kent (Middletown, DE, St. Andrew’s School) and (among the freshmen) Cameron Reddish (Haverford, PA, The Haverford School).
